This video will certainly get your heart racing and your
blood pumping this morning. At just over 1 minute long, it shows a great white leaping out of the ocean to take a seal
-- in slow-motion. It's an awesome example of how powerful and efficient these animals are. Most sharks don't leap out
of the water quite like this, so it suggests to me that the video must've been shot off Seal Island, South Africa, near where Chris Fallows works.
In any
event, take a second and check out the video. You'll be happy you did!
2. Rafa, the sharks around Seal Island are known for attacking the area's seals by diving deep and then propelling themselves straight up and out of the water. In fact, the Discovery Channel's "Air Jaws" documentary showcased these animals achieving these truly incredible feats (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005LQ1S/104-9183509-9738324?v=glance&n=404272).
4. This is from a BBC/Discovery Channel co-produced television program, you can tell by the voice of David Attenborough. It's probably 'The Blue Planet', all about life in the oceans, but not having seen it I couldn't confirm this.
9. what's astonishing to me is how the shark arcs its body perfectly in midair to avoid the shark-equivalent of a belly flop, so it enters the water at one small curved point to avoid the slap of the whole body on the surface.
It's also interesting to see the seal's tail to go from moving to dead by the time the shark hits the water... must have just bit it right through... wow...

1. I'm pretty sure I saw this on TV and the shark is CGI; you can't tell with the video quality here.
